Confession: Devirginized face

Ever since my world began, i never had anyone touch my face for anything- seriously. Like i never had a professional check it or had a facial treatment, Until the 23rd day of February happened and i had my very first facial treatment at the Dermalogica Spa located at the 5th floor of Rustan's Makati.

What happened?
A LOT. My aesthetician "Nice" (that's her name) massaged, cleansed, massaged, evaluated (Face Mapping), massaged, exfoliated, massaged, pricked, massaged, toned, and massaged my face down to my upper chest around the shoulder area.

How was the experience like?
The experience is not something i would describe as amazing because i got my white/black heads and budding pimples pricked out of my face- it was not painful but that session woke me up from my almost dreaming state. It's not as if i didn't enjoy the whole session because before i got my impurities taken out i were getting the best face massage, you guys know what i mean right?

Simply, this isn't an experience you would describe as "amazing" how can i when i were sleeping--more like half-asleep the whole time.

I'll give you a rundown of what happened, as soon as i opened the room for my treatment it already made me 10% relaxed- the room was peaceful as the lighting was perfectly set, there was a sound of a running water that was so relaxing to hear, the smell of the room was relieving me from stress for every breath that i take. By the time the session started, i were already feeling serene inside and honestly, that was the best part of this experience. The set up was actually part of the actual treatment which made the whole experience extra-ordinary. As an advertising student, i must say i were impressed that the brand stands true to its brand essence. I've tried spas for a body massage and usually the experience starts the moment your masseuse has her/his hand touching your body, agree?

You know i hate going to the doctor and see people around me in chaos. It makes me more tense even if i am just there for a normal checkup. At the clinic, everything was set up to make me feel at ease. Friendly faces of the staff, the calming aroma at the receiving area, cleanliness of the place-- So by the time i started with my facial i already got that peaceful vibe inside me and i believe that when you avail of any service at any beauty clinic or spa you pay mainly for the experience- the gratification and satisfaction you will get after but my experience at Dermalogica started the moment i stepped in there.

If you want to experience something that is worth every centavo you let out of your wallet and you're a fan of facial treatment and stuff, this is something you should try.

So would you do it again?
Yes. I mentioned it was my first time to experience this and i am just glad i made the right choice for choosing Dermalogica spa to trust my face with.

I will blog about this again with the complete details of the treatment i had and hopefully i can get an overview of the other treatments. I will be working on that and get in-touch with the right people. If you want to know how much it costs, feel free to inbox me or comment below and ill get back to you asap.

Obsession: Sun kissed skin- summer makeup and tips

I got a request from Mai to do a post on beach makeup and tips. Thanks for the request.

What you need?
SPF, n-in-one products, powdered products, water-proof products, neutral tones.

It is always best to use less makeup on the beach as you make love with the sun, sand, and water. Consider three-in-one products to be your best friend.

  • Start off your beauty routine with a tinted moisturizer that has SPF 15 (at least), i advise you invest on this one and try Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 this will replace your  moisturizer, sun screen and foundation products. Not only will this save you money but will also save you space in your makeup kit.
  • If there's anything you need to cover, apply concealer only on target areas after your skin has absorbed the tinted moisturizer with SPF.
  • Avoid anything too sticky or creamy, as it will attract sand and break down faster in the sun says
  • For your powder, look for a cooling powder i don't have any product in mind right now but a cooling powder will do wonders for your skin as it "cools" it off (obviously).
  • You want to look as if you're naturally blushing, try Stila's lip and cheek tint. Again, an N-in-one product.
  • For your eyes, use summer neutral tones. In the pictures below i used Estee Lauder in Truffle- it's a quad shadow but ELF has a similar quad shadow in Nouveau Neutrals (click here to see the ELF quad shadow - second column/second row).
For your eyes:
Ipod quality photo- heeheehee!
  • Step 1: Take the lightest color and apply it all over your eye lids up to the brow bone (you can use your fingers, i did. Well, didnt want to hassle you with regards to bringing all your makeup brushes).
  • Step 2: Take dark brown shadow using the applicator that comes with the product and apply it along your crease. This will add dimension to your eyes.
  • Step 3:  Blend it using your fingers.

Looks better than the first, right?
  • Step 4: Take the gold one and apply it at the center of your lids. Dont go all the way to the inner corner of your eyes. Then blend it with the dark brown shadow.
  • Step 5: Apply white eyeliner along your water line to brighten your eyes, i used Fashion 21 in White.
  • Step 6 (Optional): for more intensity, you can apply dark brown eyeliner as close to your lash line as possible. Don't use black, you're not going for a dramatic look.
And, ta-daaaaaaaaah!
No mascara yet, just the eyeshadow and liners
  • Apply WATERPROOF mascara if you want. Dont forget, WATERPROOF.
  • And powder along your t-zone and where ever shine may appear.
  • Extra: If you want to use bronzer, feel free to do so; however, use a minimal amount. You dont want the water around you to go brown, right?
So, that's it. Let me know if there's anything i missed to mention so i can update this post before you hit the beach next week.

Oh, with your sun block make sure it's SPF 50 and above for your body and do not get your tan at noon. You will get all the harmful UVA (responsible for ageing skin) and UVB (responsible for burning skin) rays. Do it late in the afternoon and re-apply every 30 minutes. Good luck.

Obsession: Tools of the trade

If you're just starting up to invest in and (at the same time) build your makeup collection, knowing and using the right tools is a basic necessity. So here's a guide on makeup brushes based on my experiences, adventures and booboo's, and preference.

1. NO TO ANIMAL HAIR. No excuses.

Foundation Brush

2. For your Foundation - basically, i want a flat and firm brush. Although, this really depends on what kind of finish you want and/or  kind of product you're applying on your face; since some works best with a sponge or hand application. But just to know your best bet for a foundation brush - it should be flat and firm.

Flat Brush/Semi-flat C eye shadow brush

3. For your Eye shadow - a semi-flat c eye shadow brush can work 4 jobs making it cost-efficient. Applying eye shadow, can be used to highlight brow bone, and the tip can be use to apply shadows on your crease and on your lash line for powder liners.

Blending brush

4. For your Concealer - there is a concealer brush available in the market but i (personally) just work best with a blending brush when buffing out my concealer especially the cream ones. Not to mention that you also need a blending brush to create soft edges for your shadow. So a bit fluffy blending brush with a dome-like shape is a must-have in your kit.

Total Face/Powder Brush

5. For your Blush - you want a round and fluffy brush as big as the apples of your cheeks for easy application and at the same time can work as a total face/powder brush.

But of course if you have the moolah to get all the brushes you need in one shopping day then that would be great.

Confession: Spring Beauty Trend in Barbie Doll Eyes

Back with another look--uhm, tutorial.

The first part of the last look for my Spring Beauty Trend series. I apologize for the delay, was supposed to post this yesterday but couldn't find time to do so-- busy with school as usual; hope you guys understand.
So here it is, the Barbie Doll look inspired by the Louis Vuitton S2012 show.

You can watch the video tutorial for the step by step guide on how to re-create the doll eyes and after the video is a short guide for what i missed to film for this tutorial to get the over-all look.

chocolate eye shadow

Peachy-bronze eye shadow
  • For my lips, i used Laura Mercier in Duchess Rose. Perfect for the effect this look was going for, I did not have to layer it with a gloss.
  • Apply blush on the apples of your cheek slide up to your temple, not much- keep it as natural as possible.
  • Apply mascara on your lashes.
  • Set everything in using a loose powder and a puff. I used Laura Mercier's Invisible loose powder. Again, make sure you press the powder on your face and not brush it off.
I honestly want to wear this makeup one of these days, so i'm looking for a grand occasion that calls for this look. Or maybe just wear it at home while playing with my brother's dog jackie.

Do you have the guts to actually wear this look? When do you plan? Would love to hear what you have to say.

Now, it's your time to shine. Love and Peace.

Obsession: Spring colors in a Palette

How do you like the idea of having all those dreamy spring eye shadow colors in your make up bag for less than P1,000.00 or $20? And so we shall start counting the colors we want-- yellow, lavander, fuschia, red, sky blue, gold, silver, orange, apricot, coral, berry, lilac, hot pink, purple.. and the list goes on; say about 80 something wearable spring colors perfect to complete your Spring look? Score!

It's inevitable not to pass by the mall when you're 2-3 weeks away from finals week. There's a need to be out there-- to check and observe your possible competitors and market behavior, canvass and buy ingredients for product and i should stop this before i totally bore you. So, on my way to the grocery a light reflected on this glass-like thing that caught my attention. i thought, there's a shinning, shimmering, and splendid creation out in the cosmetics' section that needs to be seen (now i sound like I am writing a paper for my Creative writing class).

Moving on to the deal. So followed the light like the three kings who followed the star to find-- i'll stop. So just followed the light and it got me to the ELF Cosmetics rack and there they are wild Spring colors in a palette shining like gold to my eyes. I asked the beauty assistant if i can see it so she took it out of the box and opened the palette, it was screaming GORGEOUS SPRING COLORS!
(by the way, Jaja was my amazing and really helpful beauty assistant, you all should get your ELF products from her)

They have two new palettes-- one in 100 eye shadow palette. So, you get 100 beautiful spring eye shadows for P899.75 (not very sure but not over P900) then the other palette offers 88 eye shadow colors,  20 lip colors, 3 blushes, and 2 bronzers for the same price which i am only 98% sure but guaranteed not over P900. Check below for pictures.

100 piece Eye Shadow Palette
88 piece Eye Shadow Palette

So if youre bold enough to wear colors this spring, you may want to grab these palettes or at least one. Or if you're currently trying to learn how to put makeup on, this isn't a bad palette to practice with. By the time you get this palette clean empty, you've already mastered the art of blending shadows on your lids. Grand.

That's all the news i have, i hope this has been helpful in a way. Forgive my side-stories about school, just fooling around. Love and Peace.

Obsession: ELF Corrective Concealer

Back with another obsession, if you missed the first one or you're looking for a primer click here

So we put the spotlight on ELF's Corrective Concealer for today's post. You guys have seen me use it in my last video and it did a great job, agree?

Available in Landmark and all Watsons store
What it does?
It's a brightening + corrector + neutralizer for P249.75.

Light/Dark skin tone corrector helps hide dark circles and even out skin. They maybe some areas in your face that are darker/lighter because of acne scars, allergy marks, and/or other factors. Also, around the lips to highlight and make it stand out more once you've put on your lippies.
Would've been better if the darker corrector is significantly darker and same goes with the lighter one so both concealer would work with any skin color when you mix the two-- Also, to achieve better concealing result. Lucky for me, the lighter tone matches my skin color perfectly (now the darker cream goes without a purpose). Hopefully, when i do makeup gigs i can use it with some morena models so nothing goes wasted.

Pink cream is for under eye areas, pale spots and where baby veins appear. I have an area around my cheek where baby veins pop out of nowhere, i use it to neutralize it. The pink one also helps brighten up tired looking eyes, giving it an instant kick of glow. Works perfectly for me.

Green is for any areas where redness appears. Best in covering budding pimples (if you do dare to touch it), sides of your nose if there's more redness in it than discoloration and if you just had your brows cleaned it can get really red right? so you can use this one to minimize the redness.

here you go with the swatches
Over all?
I like it because it has a powdery feel instead of the usual creamy-sticky texture. It's a little moist so it glides on smoothly when i apply it using my finger. It does crease a little bit but that's because i have dramatically oily skin than anyone in the world, but seal it in with a powder and it's perfect.

I do recommend you all try it, at least for the pink corrector. The pink corrector gets the job done, it justifies the amount you paid for it. I will surely buy this again for the pink and light skin tone concealers, special mention on the pink one cos there's nothing else like it in the market that i know of. Oh! and if you have light lines under your eyes the "magical pink concealer" kind of erases that too.

So, You get four correcting concealer and a mini concealer brush for a reasonable price, this is not bad at all. Right? YES.

Do you have this product in your makeup bag? If so, let me know what do you think about it? I want to hear your story and include it in this review so let me know.

Thank you.

Love and Peace,

Confession: Stila's One Step Corrector Review

When you see this product at the store counter, i am 95% sure that you would give it a closer look. Very intriguing--veryyy DNA-ish?

Stila's One Step Corrector had been in the market for over a year.
It was early last year (2011) got a hold of it when my bff C gave me this product as a random gift and now I am on to my 2nd bottle and writing a review for you, friends.

What it does?

It is a corrector, anti-aging skin care, brightener, moisturizer, and silicone-free primer in one. True for me but not for everyone.

Primer. Works to prime skin and hold makeup products for longer time than usual.

Concealer. You see that green, peach, and lavender swirlies? They do work miracles for my skin. This product gives my skin light coverage which helps in the process of building cover on to the areas that needs a lot of concealing*. Personally, i like the idea that the first product i put on my face already helps in that aspect. Also helps even out my skin, now i dont really have to put so much foundation on.

Brightener and Moisturizer. It helps brighten my skin also leaves it with a dewy glow finish (best for spring and summer). There were days when i lack sleep and i just look like a disaster. This helps in moisturizing my skin and makes it glow (like naturally). Look at the picture below and judge for yourself.

Over all?
If you have an oily skin like me, then this is a good product to invest in especially if you have dry skin because i am more than sure that it will work more wonders for you. However, if you have a sensitive skin-- i cannot really tell. I have a friend who used the same product but did nothing on her skin (she has sensitive skin), leaving her disappointed and feeling "meeeeh" about the product.

This product is a little expensive (Php 1,700) but gets the job done. If you're looking for a primer + moisturizer + brightening serum in one, you may want to try this out. It works perfectly.

If youre working on a budget, you can ditch your face mist and moisturizer next time you go shopping and get this multi-tasking product, instead.

*To help you understand, i have extra active oil glands making my skin dramatically oily than others. I do have light pimple scars and at the moment dealing with three dry pimples (crossing my fingers) that they dont leave any unwanted marks on my face. Little bit of uneven skin tone on the areas of my cheeks towards the temples, they look burned and a little darker and very light smile marks.

Love and Peace,
Pattieta aka Poppy

If you have this product, let me know i want to hear your story too and include it in this review. Thanks!

  • Primed face using Stila's one step corrector. You can use your hands (gently massage the serum all-over your face), a foundation brush, or stila brush in #33.
  • Let it dry for a couple of secs (10s) then using a foundation brush, apply foundation on your face (i used Maybelline Aqua gel in True beige).
  • Concealer. You can use your fingers or a concealer brush. Apply concealer under your eyes, on the sides of your nose, any pimple/s or acne scar/s, and on the sides of your lips. Don't forget to BLEND. BLEND. BLEND. (I used Laura Mercier secret concealer in 03).
  • Groom and brush your brows upwards. Use a brow liner if you need to fill in your brows.
  • Using Laura Mercier's Invisible loose powder and a sponge, press powder on your face to seal (the deal) all previous products on your face. Dont forget your T-zone and areas where shine usually appears.
  • Get any light taupe eye shadow you have, preferably matte finish but satin is fine. Use your finger or a c-eyeshadow brush and fill your eye lids. Make sure you dont go beyond your crease (I used Estee Lauder quad eyeshadow in 02 Amber Honey).
  • Using a flat brush, an eyeshadow brush or your fingers; apply a satin finish light eyeshadow on your brow bone (I used Estee Lauder quad eyeshadow in 02 Amber Honey).
  • Apply mascarra on your lashes. You may curl, you may opt not to. I didn't :) (I used Max Factor Masterpiece Mascarra in Rich Black).
  • Using a blush brush, apply blush on the apples of your cheeks. Not much, you should look like you're naturally blushing (I used Fashion 21 in #4).
  • With ELF's lip stain in Birthday suit, color lips. Let it dry, you can count 1-15 then apply any spring color shade of lipstick that you have (I used Laura Mercier lipstick in Tangerine).

Now, it's your time to shine.
